This page will outline what Outrun is and the history of Outrun

In the beginning there was nothing

...But then SEGA created the Outrun arcade machines. First released in 3 different cabinets; standup model, sit down model and a super deluxe version sit down model (where you more or less sit down inside a car). The point of the game very much lives up to it's name, you have to outrun the police and complete different tracks within certain timelimits.

Since then...

The game was converted to run on more than 10 home systems, including Commodore 64, Atari, PC, ZX Spectrum etc. And many different (newer) versions has been released over the years, including Turbo Outrun, OutRun 3D, Outrun 2019, Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast etc.

Legacy

Outrun is one of the most well-known car games in history, to this date many people remember it and play it in one of it's more modern versions still. It was one of the games that defined and created the car/racing games genre of video games.
